Tuesday 31 January 2017

Gotta get in one more post for January - that way I tie my posts for January last year! LOL  Actually I have been doing a ton of crafting so it is making it easy to post lots.

I did another day of the ArtMarks 30 Day Challenge. Day 16's prompt was Assorted and I really had no idea what to do, so I basically just played with assorted products till I got the desired result! Kinda like how it came out.

Day 16 - Assorted

I also finished my design team project for Mixed Media Mojo. I don't want to show the whole project as it doesn't go onto the blog till tomorrow, but here are some sneak peaks!

I have another project coming up for February 6th for the design team, so keep checking back for that. I also have a bunch of other stuff on the go so till next time, stay crafty my peeps!

Monday 30 January 2017

Well that was what you call a very crafty weekend for me! I spent a ton of time working on several projects - and I even got in a bunch of non-crafting related activities. A win for me that's for sure!

I did a whole bunch more of the ArtMarks 30 Day challenge prompts. I am really enjoying this - though there are some days I have had no idea what to do! But it is fun playing with all my different products! Check out the days I did this weekend:

Day 12 - Puddled

Day 13 - Patterned

Day 14 - Dashed

Day 15 - Loose

I also did some more work on week 5 of my Inspiration Wednesday 2016  classes. Pretty happy with it so far!

And I got started on my design team projects for February for Mixed Media Mojo. I am actually also going to use them for a swap I am in! Two birds, one stone I say! LOL Here is a quick peak of how the project started - more photos will be in the post about the project.

Have to get both this projects and my other one for the team finished here this week, so more pics will follow! Till next time, stay crafty my peeps!

Thursday 26 January 2017

My journey with the ArtMarks 30 Day Challenge has really been a fun one so far! It has gotten me into my craft room every day so far since the 15th of January, and I am having so much fun playing with all my different mediums and trying to come up with an interpretation of the prompts. These are my latest pages.

Day 9 - Cheveron

Day 10 - Criss Cross

Day 11 - Lines

If you are interested in playing along, here is the prompt list we have been following:

And if you want to see more great interpretations of these prompts, make sure you check out everyone's posts on Instagram!

I will be posting more pages as I go, and I also have to get going on my February Design Team project and a couple swaps. So till next time, stay crafty my peeps.

Tuesday 24 January 2017

I got down to my craft room for a bit last night - mostly to get a couple journal pages finished up. I am a bit behind now in the ArtMarks 30 day Challenge, but I wanted to make sure I didn't get too far behind. The prompt for this page was rings, but it wasn't till I was done with it that I realized mine was more circles that rings. But hey, I like it so that is what counts! LOL

Day 8 - Rings

And then I was able to finish up another week of IW2016. I am soooooo far behind with last years, and she is already on week 2 of IW2017. But my journal for 2017 showed up yesterday and I have it all gessoed and ready to go (I just have to get the stencils from a friend). So I think I will end up doing both years at the same time. At any rate, I had fun with last years week 4 and I am looking forward to doing more. I really liked for this weeks that I could use some of the old newspapers that I have - they are from 1942!

So till next time, stay crafty my peeps.

Monday 23 January 2017

I hope you all had as much of a fun crafty weekend as I did! I was really jealous of all my crafty friends that are at Creativation (CHA) - but I had the next best thing. A LIBRARY CROP!!

It was a smaller crowd than we have sometimes had, but it was a fun group for sure. And everyone go a LOT accomplished - even me!

I worked on some of my ArtMarks 30 Day Challenge Pages

Day 6 - Gridded was the theme for this one. Was really not sure what to do with this and got stumped for a bit, but it came together in the end.

Day 7 - Dozens was the prompt and it made me think of eggs. I had fun doing this page. Really happy with how it came out!

And then most of the ladies wanted to do the Round Robin challenge again. If you haven't done this before it is so much fun! I was introduced to this by Limor Webber when she came to our crop in 2015. What you do is have everyone who participates start with a blank page/journal and then you set a timer (we did 2 minutes). For the set time everyone works on the page in front of them. When the timer goes off you stop and hand your paper to the next person. You do this until you get yours back. Once again we had so much fun - and a whole lot of laughs! We had some new people to this challenge and as usual they loved it. Here is the page I ended up with. I am going to add the picture of the group to it and call it done.

I spent the remainder of the weekend working on a kit that I bought about 3 years ago and never go around to working on. It is a Folio using the Graphic 45 Couture paper. I got the cover done and I am liking it so far. I am actually glad I waited so long to do this project as I have done other similar things and had a better idea of what I was doing than I think I would have if I had done the project when I first got it. And as usual I am giving it my own spin!

Well, I hope to do more ArtMarks challenges this week, as well as get started on my February design team project, so till next time, stay crafty my peeps!

YEAR IN REVIEW - My Fav Steampunk Projects

While on my creative journey, I have found a lot of different sites and blogs that I like to follow - to get ideas and to connect with other crafty people. One site that I found that I love - since it is Steampunk themed - is called Sandee and Amelie's Steampunk Challenges. I just can't get over all the talented people on this site and I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything and everything Steampunk, so this is a fav site. Check them out:

And for the new year, their fist challenge is to show off your three favourite Steampunk projects from the last year. I  had a hard time picking just three, but I think I found the ones I want to enter for the challenge. So take a peak and let me know if you love them as much as I do!

1) July 6th, 2017 (TAG)

I made some steampunk themed tags this summer that I really had fun doing. I was playing around with a bunch of the products that I recently bought, and after watching a few tutorials on how to use everything, I came up with this tag.

2)  July 21st, 2016 (Steampunk Cat)

This project was one that I started earlier in the summer and then completely changed directions as I did not like where I was headed with it. The image was just one that I found on Pinterest and the big bolt at the bottom I actually found during one of our camping trips in the summer and I thought it would be a fun addition to a project - I didn't even have to antique it up as it was all rust covered already! LOL

3) September 2nd, 2016 (Octopus Clock)

My third favourite project was one that I had intended to use for a swap but then fell in love with the final result and had to keep it for myself! Luckily I had come up with a better idea for the swap anyway so it all worked out in the end.

So these are my three favourite projects from 2016 that are all Steampunk themed. Make sure you check out the challenge over on Sandee and Amelie's blog - and make sure you enter too!!

January Challenge

As soon as the work day is done, I am off to spend all weekend crafting at a crop with some of my favourite crafty people. So until next time, stay crafty my peeps!

Thursday 19 January 2017

I have been having A LOT of fun doing the ArtMarks 30 Day challenge that I was introduced to by my fabulous crafty pal Wendy from W2Scrapbooking. The super fun Rae Missigman came up with this and it has been a really neat way to just play with a bunch of my products - some of which I haven't done anything with in ages!! Check out my day three and four pages:

Day Three

Day Four

If you haven't checked it out yet, check out all the details on the challenge over at her blog - and join in the fun!!

Can't wait to do more pages - and I have crop this weekend so hopefully will get a bunch of projects done! Till next time, stay crafty my peeps!

Mixed Media Mojo Design Team Project - January

I posted my first official Design Team project over on the Mixed Mojo blog today and I am really excited for this year of creativity with this team. And with sharing it with all of you - my AMAZING blog followers!!

For my project I stuck as best I could to the January theme of new with the twist clocks. I had an idea in mind for a while on doing a Steampunk style clock and had a bunch of great materials to use and this theme was the perfect opportunity to do so. Here is a look at the finished project and I will go through how I made it below the picture.

I started off with a round wooden frame that I got in one of the many mixed media kit clubs I belong to, along with some clock chipboard pieces and some Finnabair multi media canvas with a music theme already printed on the canvas.

The first step was to attach the canvas pieces in random spots around the frame using 3D Gel medium. I also attached a lot of the string that came off when I was tearing the canvas into strips - it gave the piece even more texture. I was also working on another project at the same time and as opposed to wasting the extra paste on the stencil I was using for that project I added more dimension in a few places to this project with that same stencil.

Once this was all dry, the next step was to paint and spray the entire piece. I used Dina Wakely metallic paint as the first layer and then sprayed on top of that with Tim Holtz Distress sprays and Mica Sprays. I used shades of teal and blue, as well as more metallic colours to give it the steampunk feel I wanted. I also added more colour to highlight certain areas using Ink Gold. I also added more dimension using texture paste in a few areas - mostly to highlight the numbers I wanted on the clock.

The next stage was to alter the chipboard clock pieces. To do this I used Finnabair's fantastic Rust Paste. I love it for giving items that aged/antique feel.

The final stage was to add the clock pieces and all the other ephemera that I wanted on the clock.  I have always had people asking me how I do this part and unfortunately, there is really no rhyme nor reason for how I place things where I do. In some cases I was trying to cover up the pop dots I was using, but mostly I just place everything down in different spots until I have the look that I want and then I glue it all down. Here are some close ups of the finished clock.

I hope you all like my project and I would love to hear your thoughts! So until next time, stay crafty my peeps!

Tuesday 17 January 2017

I FINALLY got an Inspiration Wednesday page done! I checked back and the last one I finished was back in June of 2016. I really have to get back into doing these - I forgot how much fun they are and how much I enjoy them. I think at some point this year I will be doing both 2016 and 2017 at the same time! This is my week three page.

I also did day two of the Art Marks 30 day challenge. The prompt for the day was needlework and this is my take on it. I am really enjoying this!

And I got a bit more done on my design team project. I will be posting it tomorrow both on my blog as well as the Mixed Media Mojo blog. Make sure you check it out. here is another sneak peak!

Make sure you pop back tomorrow to see the entire project, as well as a basic tutorial on how I make it! Till then, stay crafty my peeps!

Monday 16 January 2017

Got a chance to spend some quality time in my craft room this weekend. I am back into my normal of having a bunch of projects on the go at once.

For starters, I FINALLY got back to working on my Inspiration Wednesday classes - from 2016! I figured I should get going on those since 2017 has started and I don't want to get even farther behind. I have a journal on the way for 2017 so I might end up doing both years at once. But it was a blast getting back into it! I am loving this page so far!

I also did the first day of the 30 Day ArtMarks Challenge I was telling you all about. It was fun to just create for a limited amount of time. I just used whatever I could easily reach from my craft table and using the prompt. It was fun. And I am enjoying seeing what others are posting to Instagram too. Really looking forward to doing more of this challenge. Here is a pic of day one.

I was also working on my other project for my Design Team. I am working on the "clock" theme portion of the challenge for this project. And it is coming along nicely. Got a few ideas on where to go from here, but I am pretty happy with it so far. Here are a couple sneak peeks!

So I will working on this project some more - have to finish it for my posting day on Wednesday - along with more work on my IW pages. So till next time, stay crafty my peeps!
